Updated: NVidia Tesla (C1060) units: delivery and sale information
Update: 1-September-2009
Tesla C1060 units are now readily available for Pegasus and JackRabbit systems. Supply issues appear to be resolved. NVidia has ended its sale of these units to developers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scalable Informatics has been selling NVidia Tesla (C1060) units as part of our Pegasus-GPU and Pegasus-GPU+Cell units. Several issues have arisen with Tesla availability and pricing.
First issue: Tesla units are currently on a 4-8 week back order. We have no control over this, all other vendors have the exact same issues. NVidia is not shipping Tesla in any appreciable volumes.
Our workaround: Until NVidia is able to ramp its volume to appropriate levels, Scalable Informatics will provide loaner GTX260 cards in place of the Tesla units. Once the Tesla units ship, we will exchange the GTX260 units for the Tesla units.
Second issue: While Tesla's are hard to come by, NVidia has been running a sale on these units, offering a discounted price to developer customers. Unfortunately, due to an oversight in the implementation and wording of the program, it would appear, from NVidia's site, that only 6 vendors are providing these sale prices to customers.
Scalable Informatics would like to assure our customers (current and prospective) that we are providing you with the same sale price on the cards, as integrated into our Pegasus-GPU and Pegasus-GPU+Cell products. This sale officially ends on 27-July-2009, so please do order your Pegasus systems today.
